hi all i have 2 females hogs one i have had for seven years and is 3 ft long 500g and in good health,
I now have a male hoggie too who is 65g i was told that he could mate at this size with my big female,he is tiny compared to her, would they be able to breed now or do i need to wait till hes bigger.?
Also can i mate them without brumation and can they be mated any time of the year or only at a certain time of the year?,
my other female is 80g so i need to waitwith her,
WHEN ARE HOGS TOO OLD TO BE BRED? ANY BREEDING HELP FROM PEOPLE WHO KNOW WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED thanks carl

You can feel the eggs when she's heavily gravid. Put the nest box in as soon as she looks big at the back end. If you see her looking anxious and restlessly looking about the cage, then the nest box is getting desperately needed

I don't brumate hognose snakes. I have found that they do not need it. Others find otherwise. It's really up to you. If you have poor results, you can always try brumation the following season. I already have eggs incubating, and my red albino female is laying some right now.

First time I breed my hoggies is just bought them at an adult age and placed them together emediately.
It was the last day from march.

It took a lot of mating and time befor i had eggs.
The eggs came out on august 5th.

Most snakes will breed without brumation, although a lot of breeders prefer to brumate to get them in the right frame of mind for the deed.

If you are breeding this year, then I would brumate because we are already in spring, so it wouldn't be a natural brumating cycle.

Females should be 300grams or more to breed.
Male are good at 75grams but often they are able to breed before they reach that weight.

You can try to put him on your older female but keep an close eye on them.
Its best to seperate them after mating.
Try to let them mate more than 2 or 3 times (on diffrent days)
