Hi all
I don't think I have posted before 
Anyway here is my female hognose called Hoggle about a week ago heavily gravid with her first (and mine!) ever clutch.
And this is what I found in her nestbox today 
There are 19 eggs although one is small and yellow so I don't think it is fertile. They are incubating away and now I begin the anxious wait to see if I will have babies. It's exciting but nerve racking at the same time but I am trying not to get my hopes up to much in case of failure.

Congratulations. Not bad at all for a first clutch. I don't think you need to worry, those eggs look in top condition, as long as incubation goes to plan, you will defiantly have some babies.
What age and weight was she when you bred her? Because that is an excellent first clutch. |

Keeping my fingers crossed the incubation goes well, I have never incubated eggs before and it is a home made incubator although had it set up for several weeks before and seems steady. I am completely paranoid about the temps being right and have two thermometers in there which I check obsessively! Hoggle hatched August 2008 so 2 and half years old roughly, male is about the same and both were cooled. I didn't weigh her but she has always been a good feeder and quite a chunky girl. Here she was last summer:
She was really ravenous after laying all those and is now back to her old self which I am really pleased about. After loosing a lizard to egg binding last year I really worry. Gosh I sound neurotic! lol |

I would be permanently worried about things like egg-binding if I ever went in for breeding my snakes, so I can sympathise.
We will be wanting some piccies of the babies as soon as they come out... |

She looks nice and healthy! Yes you'll find yourself checking your eggs every five minutes with your first clutch but they are best left alone, if you keep opening the egg tub for instance, humidity will be lost and eggs may dry out!

The eggs are still looking plump and healthy and can't be much longer now! It's very exciting and I can't wait until I open the lid one day and see a little nose poking out. Hoggle looks gravid again and has just shed so I think she is going to double clutch, although she is not as fat as last time. I hope the eggs hatch before she lays again otherwise there will be a squeeze in the incubator.

2nd clutch has arrived 
Was really hoping the first lot would hatch before the 2nd arrived but have managed fit them all in my home-made incubator. Was expecting the 2nd lot to be smaller but it was another 19! Although this time 4 were duds rather than one. So proud of her!

Yes I love the Labyrinth although mainly I just thought Hoggle the Hognose sounded cute.

The first hatchling has started to emerge! I am so excited I can barely contain myself
Still a while to go yet though, trying to stay calm and let them get on with it.

They are bigger than I expected.
I also have one egg which has split before s/he is ready, but I'm hoping s/he will be ok.

I know this is a few months old, but wow!! What a fantastic amount of eggs!  Is there any update on these guys? Did the one that's egg split make it? The one on your hand is enormous, I swear it's bigger than mine is and mine is a good few months old!!  |

Completely forgot I started this thread! Sadly the one in the split egg died but it was the only one out of the first clutch that did so I had a 17 hatchlings. The 2nd clutch was less successful as I had problems with the temperature in the incubator getting too high over the summer, some came out with odd markings too presumably because of the incubation problems. I am having problems with non-feeders though which has been worse than I expected.
